Set in the heart of Shoreditch is The Blues Kitchen; London’s very own American style diner crossed with a blues/rock n roll bar, a combination that strangely works. This restaurant is perfect for those looking for a reasonably cheap and filling meal at somewhere that has a whole lot of character.
The Blues Kitchen specialises in Southern US food/Texas BBQ, with their menu comprising of burgers, ribs and fried chicken, among others. I went for the classic cheeseburger (holding the cheese-I’m weird, I know) and was pleasantly surprised. With a brioche bun, a juicy meat patty, salad, mayo & mustard, you can’t really go wrong. Each table has the option to add their own variety of BBQ sauces and boy would it be a mistake to miss these. Add one of these to your burger and the meal is instantly lifted. Served with hot chips and slaw on your very own wooden board, the meal is all round pretty great.
The atmosphere of this restaurant is what made me really like this place. For all those fellow Grey’s Anatomy fans out there, you’ll be happy to know The Blues Kitchen has their very own ‘Derek Trailer’ that can be booked out for groups. Next time I go, I know where I’ll be sitting! Aside from the Airstream caravan, you have the option to sit in an American diner style booth, table or the bar. Set in an old warehouse-feeling building, the space is filled with an assortment of knick knacks. Accompanied by live music 7 nights a week and with Sunday being gospel night, there really is no reason I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone visiting London. If you want a good burger in a really fun atmosphere, this is the place to go.
