After teary goodbyes, a 20.5 hour flight over the Pacific Ocean and travelling over 15,000km we had landed in the most spectacular place in the world, New York City.
The bright city lights, the thousands of yellow taxis and rushing people surrounded us as we made our way into the heart of Manhattan. Landing in the Big Apple marked the beginning of my amazing adventure, living in the United States of America.
With little sleep and absurd hunger pains we made our way to a classic New York Pizza shop on our first night in the city that never sleeps. Us, being Australians, were unsure of the protocol for ordering pizza in the United States, so as we normally would, we ordered one small pizza for the two of us. Little did we know this was going to be an extremely large pizza (as you can see in the photo) that could feed my family of 6 back home. In fact one slice was around two times the size of my head, so very very big! Within our first hour of being in Manhattan we had already learnt rule number 1 for travelling to America: When having pizza in New York, order one slice per person.
